Oftentimes in the creative process, I find myself fixated on the relationship humans have with each other and the earth that we share. The subject of much of my work in recent years has featured an individual who has in some way melded with nature. In a series entitled “Perception vs. Reality,” I explored the idea that what we perceive may not always be that which is actually occurring. It seems that humans like to assume that what they are experiencing is reality. In some aspects, this is true. But it is important to take into account the ways that our individual experiences change and warp our outlook on life in both positive and negative ways. When these perceptions differ between people, it causes interpersonal conflict. The second portrait in this series is presented here in this body of work and shows an individual partially blinded by his perception, unable to see reality clearly through his warped view (physically represented by daisies).
